    Argentina Golden Visa Investment Requirements

Argentina's citizenship by investment program, established by Decree 524/2025, requires a minimum investment of $500,000 USD in qualifying Argentine assets. The program is administered by the newly created Agency for Citizenship by Investment, which oversees verification, compliance, and approvals for all applicants.

    Minimum Investment Amount

The baseline threshold for all applicants is $500,000 USD (subject to final regulation). This figure applies to the principal applicant. As of mid-2025, no separate reduced thresholds have been confirmed for family members or regional incentive zones, though final implementing regulations may introduce adjustments.

All investment amounts must be funded from lawfully sourced capital originating outside Argentina. The Agency requires full documentation of the funds' origin, including bank statements, tax filings, and source-of-wealth declarations.

    Qualifying Investment Types

Decree 524/2025 recognizes three primary categories of qualifying investments:

    1. Real Estate

Direct purchase of Argentine real property valued at or above the minimum threshold. The property must be acquired through a registered transaction and titled in the applicant's name. Both residential and commercial properties qualify, provided they meet the minimum value requirement. Note: passive real estate holdings acquired solely for rental income — without active development, renovation, or economic contribution — may not satisfy the program's intent under the decree's guidelines (subject to final regulation).

    2. Government Bonds

Purchase of Argentine government securities, including BOPREAL (Bonos para la Reconstrucción de una Argentina Libre) or other sovereign instruments designated by the Agency. These bonds must be held for a defined maintenance period and cannot be sold, transferred, or encumbered during that time.

    3. Active Business Creation

Establishing or acquiring a meaningful stake in an Argentine business that generates employment and economic activity. The investment must result in verifiable job creation or capital expenditure within Argentina. Holding company structures or shell entities without operational substance do not qualify.

    What Does Not Qualify

The following do not meet the program's investment criteria:

    • Cryptocurrency or digital asset holdings
    • Investments held in foreign accounts or entities without Argentine nexus
    • Passive financial instruments not explicitly designated by the Agency
    • Donations or gifts to public or private institutions
    • Previously completed investments made before the applicant's formal application

    Maintenance Period

All qualifying investments must be maintained for a minimum holding period (subject to final regulation). During this period, the asset cannot be sold, significantly altered, or moved offshore. Government bonds must remain in the applicant's registered account for the full term. Real estate must remain titled to the applicant. Business investments must demonstrate continued operational activity.

    Verification Process

The Agency for Citizenship by Investment conducts a multi-step verification process:

    • Source of funds review — documented proof that capital originates from lawful sources outside Argentina
    • Asset valuation — independent appraisal confirming the investment meets the minimum threshold
    • Ongoing compliance checks — periodic audits during the maintenance period to confirm the investment remains in place

Applicants who fail to maintain their investment or who cannot demonstrate continued compliance risk revocation of their residency or citizenship status.
