Argentina Citizenship by Investment Due Diligence Process
Expected Checks Before Launch
Program Status: Applications are not open. Final due diligence protocols under Decree 524/2025 have not been published.
Argentina citizenship by investment due diligence process is not open for applications as of August 2026. Decree 366/2025 and Decree 524/2025 created a legal pathway for naturalization through a relevant investment and assigned administration to the Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión (APCI). They did not publish operational due diligence manuals, checklists, or filing portals. None of it can be completed with APCI today.
The research note on the Argentina citizenship by investment launch date records that, after the April 2026 tender cancellation, Argentina had still not defined application procedures or due diligence protocols. That gap remains the governing fact for anyone preparing files in advance.

What the Due Diligence Process Is Expected to Involve
The decrees describe a multi-agency review rather than a single-office rubber stamp. APCI, under the Ministry of Economy, is expected to receive the investment proposal and coordinate background work. Existing program summaries on this site list Immigration, security authorities, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), and the intelligence secretariat (SIDE) as the other bodies in that chain.
The checks described in those summaries fall into three groups:
- Identity and background: passport validity, civil records, and criminal-record certificates, apostilled and translated into Spanish where the documents were issued abroad. See required documents.
- Source verification: proof that the capital used for the Argentine investment originated outside Argentina and from lawful activity. See investment requirements.
- Security screening: national-security and financial-intelligence review of the applicant and, where a family file is accepted, of included dependents.
Argentina's New Citizenship by Investment Program is Attracting American Investors outlines a three-step sequence once a file is complete:
- 01Investment proposalInvestment proposal submitted to the agency for certification.
- 02Due diligenceDue diligence on background and source of funds.
- 03DecisionA decision from the National Directorate of Migration. Processing time for that decision is not yet officially confirmed.
It is not a clock that starts when an investor emails a CV.
Until APCI publishes forms, fee schedules, and vendor lists for background screening, no applicant can "start due diligence" in the sense used by Caribbean citizenship-by-investment units. The useful work now is document assembly against the categories below, not a filing.

Source of Funds Documentation
Source of funds requirements on this site are already stated at a category level. Investment requirements say all investment amounts must be funded from lawfully sourced capital originating outside Argentina, with bank statements, tax filings, and source-of-wealth declarations. That is documentation of origin and path, not a second investment quota.
Expected source-of-funds files, based on those categories, include:
- Bank statements showing the funds leaving a foreign account and arriving in the Argentine transaction used for the anticipated contribution or bond.
- Tax filings that reconcile the same funds with declared income or gains in the country where the wealth was taxed.
- A source-of-wealth narrative that explains how the applicant accumulated the capital (employment, company sale, inheritance, investment returns), supported by contracts, sale agreements, or estate documents where they exist.
- Corporate records if the funds move through a company: ownership, dividend or loan paperwork, and evidence that the company could legally distribute the money.
Current anticipated investment amounts are $500,000 or $1,000,000, subject to final regulation. See the investment requirements for details. Those figures are not a source-of-funds form. Source-of-funds review asks where that capital came from and how it moved. Neither path has been officially confirmed.
APCI has not published a list of accepted banks, a look-back period, or a template declaration. Preparing the categories above is file hygiene. It is not a substitute for the forms that do not yet exist. Latest framework notes are in the Decree 524/2025 progress update.
Net Worth Requirements
Net worth requirements have not been published as a separate numeric floor. They are not a statement that applicants must show a multiple of the anticipated path amounts as personal net worth.
Source of funds and net worth are related but not identical:
- Source of funds traces the specific capital used for the Argentine investment.
- Source of wealth, and any net-worth review, looks at whether the applicant's overall resources are consistent with that capital.
Until APCI issues a net-worth schedule, there is no official Argentine number to target. What can be assembled now is evidence that the applicant's declared wealth matches the source-of-funds story: audited financials or tax summaries, property and company registries, and an explanation of liabilities. Those materials support consistency. They are not a published net-worth test.
Anyone using a $500,000 (or any other) personal-net-worth rule of thumb is importing a figure this program has not issued. Do not treat marketing rules of thumb from other citizenship programs as Argentine law.
Argentina Citizenship by Investment for Crypto Investors
Argentina citizenship by investment for crypto investors runs into a distinction already on this site. Investment requirements list cryptocurrency and digital asset holdings among assets that do not qualify. Holding Bitcoin, ether, or tokens is not, on current published categories, a qualifying Argentine investment.
That ban is about the asset that sits in Argentina. It is not, by itself, a ban on using proceeds from a prior crypto sale to fund a qualifying Argentine investment once those proceeds are lawful fiat in a bank account. APCI has not published a crypto-specific source-of-funds protocol. The expected treatment, consistent with the source-of-funds categories above, is conversion-and-paper-trail, not on-chain balances as the investment.
Documentation crypto-derived capital is expected to need, if and when filings open:
- Exchange account statements showing acquisition, disposal, and fiat withdrawal, including dates and counterparties.
- Wallet records that can be tied to the same identity as the passport on the file, where funds never sat on a licensed exchange.
- Tax filings in the jurisdiction that taxed the disposal, matching the fiat amount later used in Argentina.
- Bank statements covering the fiat from the exchange or OTC desk through to the Argentine contribution or bond purchase.
- An explanation of mixing, privacy wallets, or unhosted chains if those appear in the history. Gaps in the trail are the usual failure point in source-of-funds files, not the fact that the original asset was crypto.
Mining, staking, or protocol income would be expected to sit in the source-of-wealth narrative (how the coins were earned), then in the same conversion trail. There is no published Argentine shortcut that treats a wallet screenshot as source of funds.
Until APCI writes the protocol, crypto investors can organize exchange, tax, and bank records. They cannot submit those records to a citizenship unit that is not processing files.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Argentina citizenship by investment due diligence open for filing?
- No. Applications are not open. Decree 524/2025 did not publish operational due diligence manuals, checklists, or filing portals. None of the review described on this page can be completed with APCI today. See the launch-date research note.
Do cryptocurrency holdings qualify as the Argentine investment?
- No. Cryptocurrency and digital asset holdings do not qualify as the Argentine investment on current published categories. Holding Bitcoin, ether, or tokens is not a qualifying Argentine investment. Source-of-funds review, when it exists, is separate from that path test. See investment requirements.
Is there a published net-worth multiple for Argentina citizenship by investment?
- No. Net worth requirements have not been published as a separate numeric floor. The anticipated $500,000 USD Treasury contribution and $1,000,000 USD 7-year government bond are expected investment amounts, subject to final regulation. They are not a rule that applicants must show a multiple of either sum as personal net worth.
What is source of funds in the Argentina citizenship by investment due diligence process?
- Source-of-funds review asks where capital came from and how it moved, including bank statements showing funds leaving a foreign account and arriving in the Argentine transaction used for the anticipated contribution or bond. It does not replace the path test. Neither path has been officially confirmed.
Who is expected to review an Argentina citizenship by investment file?
- The decrees describe a multi-agency review. APCI, under the Ministry of Economy, is expected to receive the investment proposal. Program summaries on this site also list Immigration, security authorities, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), and the intelligence secretariat (SIDE). Those agencies are not processing APCI citizenship files today.
